Location: Home-based. Applicants should live in Surrey or within approximately 20 minutes of the Surrey border.

Every child deserves a safe, stable and caring home. Right now, many children in care in Surrey need foster carers who can offer patience, encouragement, consistency and a genuine sense of belonging.

This is a fostering opportunity, not a traditional employed role. A child or young person would live with you in your home, and you would provide the day-to-day care, stability and support they need as part of family life. Foster carers are self-employed and responsible for managing their own tax affairs.

You do not need previous fostering experience or professional childcare qualifications. What matters most is your ability to care, listen, advocate and build trusting relationships with children who may have experienced difficult situations.

Could You Foster?

Foster carers come from all walks of life. You may be working, not currently working, self-employed, retired, changing direction or looking for a meaningful way to make a difference from home. Applicants may come from education, care, customer service, administration, retail, hospitality, professional roles, creative industries, trades or many other backgrounds.

Being a Foster Carer does not always mean giving up your job. The organisation will talk through what may be possible based on your circumstances and the needs of the child.

You do not need to own your home, be in a relationship or have children of your own. You will need suitable space at home, which may include a spare bedroom or, for some babies, suitable space for a cot in your own bedroom, subject to assessment.

This is a home-based fostering role where you would support a child or young person in your own family environment. It is different from working in a children’s residential home, support worker role or employed care position.

Foster carers receive full training, ongoing guidance and practical support, including one-to-one support from a supervising social worker, access to experienced foster carers, support groups, emergency support and opportunities to continue learning and developing.

What Fostering Involves

As a Foster Carer, you will provide a safe and nurturing home environment where a child can feel secure, supported and listened to.

This may include helping with everyday routines such as meals, school, appointments, activities, friendships and family time. You will also support a child’s emotional wellbeing, encourage confidence, attend meetings, work with professionals and advocate for the child’s needs.

Fostering is a big commitment, but it is also one of the most meaningful ways to make a lasting difference to a child’s life.
