Digital Engineering Delivery Manager (Mechanical Systems)
Contract Length: 3 months (rolling contract)
Pay Rate: 700 - 1,200 per day (inside IR35)
Location: Reading (x2 days per week)
UK Based Aerospace / Defence Senior Delivery Role
We are looking for an experienced Digital Engineering Delivery Manager to take ownership of the delivery and ongoing development of sophisticated digital engineering capabilities within a major engineering environment.
This is a senior role sitting at the intersection of engineering, digital technology and product delivery, with responsibility for ensuring engineering teams have the tools, environments, processes and integrated capabilities required to support complex mechanical and fluid-system design.
You will work closely with engineering teams, technical specialists, suppliers and senior stakeholders to translate engineering requirements into clear capability roadmaps, prioritised backlogs and deliverable solutions.
What you'll be doing
Leading the delivery and continuous improvement of digital engineering capabilities supporting complex mechanical and fluid systems
Developing product roadmaps, delivery plans and prioritised backlogs based on engineering and business requirements
Supporting engineering toolchains covering system simulation, CAD, CFD, thermal analysis, configuration management and test data
Ensuring effective integration and traceability between requirements, engineering models, analysis and test evidence
Working with engineering teams to improve model-based and simulation-driven engineering practices
Coordinating delivery across internal technical teams, external suppliers and technology partners
Managing technical risks, dependencies, performance, capacity and service improvement
Supporting the selection, implementation and optimisation of engineering technologies and platforms
Establishing appropriate governance, data standards, access controls and configuration practices
Driving adoption of new engineering tools, processes and ways of working across multidisciplinary teams
Managing supplier relationships, technology evaluations and technical delivery
Balancing immediate delivery requirements with longer-term architecture, scalability and maintainability
What we're looking for
We are particularly interested in candidates who combine strong engineering knowledge with digital/product delivery experience.
You should have:
Significant experience delivering digital engineering capabilities within aerospace, defence or another highly regulated engineering environment
Strong knowledge of mechanical and/or fluid systems engineering
Experience with engineering environments involving 1D system simulation, CFD, thermal analysis and/or 3D CAD
Good understanding of model-based engineering and simulation-driven design
Experience integrating engineering tools, data and processes across complex environments
Strong product, project or programme delivery experience
Experience managing technical suppliers and system integrators
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work across engineering, technology and leadership teams
Experience operating within complex, multi-partner or distributed engineering programmes
Strong understanding of governance, configuration management, data quality and engineering assurance
Experience across areas such as fuel systems, hydraulics, environmental control, pneumatics, thermal management or other complex mechanical systems would be particularly valuable.
A degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical discipline is preferred, alongside relevant project, programme or service-management experience.
Security
Due to the nature of the environment, candidates must be eligible to obtain the appropriate UK security clearance.
The opportunity
This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how advanced engineering teams use digital technology, simulation and integrated engineering environments.
You'll have significant ownership of the capability roadmap and work with a broad range of engineering and technology specialists to introduce solutions that improve engineering efficiency, collaboration, traceability and quality.
If you have a background spanning digital engineering, mechanical/fluid systems and complex technical delivery, we'd be keen to hear from you.
