About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Year Manager to join a secondary school's pastoral team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality pastoral support to an allocated year group, helping to promote positive behaviour, attendance, wellbeing, safeguarding, and academic engagement.
Working closely with students, parents/carers, teaching staff, and external agencies, you will play a key role in supporting students to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day pastoral care and support for students within the assigned year group.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents/carers, and staff.
- Support students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, or personal challenges.
- Monitor and manage attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and welfare concerns.
- Investigate behavioural incidents and implement appropriate interventions in line with school policies.
- Liaise with parents/carers regarding attendance, behaviour, wellbeing, and student progress.
- Work collaboratively with safeguarding and attendance teams to support vulnerable students.
- Promote positive mental health and wellbeing across the year group.
- Signpost students to appropriate support services and external agencies where required.
- Attend pastoral, safeguarding, and multi-agency meetings as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records and reports.
- Support student transition and engagement in wider school life and enrichment activities.
Person Specification
Essential
- Experience working with young people in an educational, pastoral, or youth support setting.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing behaviour positively and effectively.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Previous experience as a Year Manager, Pastoral Manager, Behaviour Mentor, Attendance Officer, Teaching Assistant, or similar role.
- Safeguarding and/or First Aid qualifications.
- Experience working with external agencies.
- Knowledge of SEND and inclusion practices.
