SALARY: £43,912 per annum (For Croydon / London role) & £39,849 per annum (For roles outside London) + Benefits

LOCATION: Croydon, South London

This role is in Croydon. However, we have multiple positions across the UK and will also accept applications for candidates who live in Birkenhead or  Warton, North West England, Coventry or Telford, West Midlands, Durham, North East England, Weymouth or Gloucester or Plymouth, South West England, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire and the Humber, Leicester or Nottingham, East Midlands, Peterborough, East of England, Swansea, Wales

JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Freedom of Information and Data Protection Manager to lead FOIA, EIR and data protection activity within a busy public sector environment.

As the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Manager you will manage a team of Disclosure Officers, supporting timely, accurate and compliant responses to information requests while promoting a positive information rights culture.

The Freedom of Information and Data Protection Manager will interpret legislation, provide advice, oversee quality standards, support complaints and ICO correspondence, and contribute to training, monitoring, audit activity and publication scheme work.

 

DUTIES

Your duties as the Freedom of Information and Data Protection Manager include:

  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of Disclosure Officers coordinating responses to Freedom of Information, EIR and data protection requests
  • Request Management: Ensure responses are high quality and delivered within relevant statutory deadlines
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor and quality check the team’s responses, providing constructive feedback and support on complex cases
  • Records Management: Ensure effective records are maintained and update SharePoint sites as required
  • Internal Reviews: Manage requests for internal review and support complaints and ICO correspondence
  • Legislation and Guidance: Interpret legislation and regulatory guidance, sharing findings in a clear, consistent and actionable way
  • Advice and Support: Provide timely, high-quality information rights advice to colleagues across the organisation
  • Training and Compliance: Collaborate on information rights training and carry out monitoring and audit activity to support compliance
  • Reporting and Disclosure Logs: Compile information for the Freedom of Information disclosure log and provide quarterly statistical returns
  • Deputising Duties: Provide cover for team members and deputise for the Information Rights Manager when required

 

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • FOI or Data Protection Qualification: practitioner qualification in Freedom of Information or Data Protection, or willingness to complete the qualification once in post
  • Freedom of Information Knowledge: current working knowledge and practical application of freedom of information legislation within a comparable organisation
  • Data Protection Knowledge: current working knowledge of data protection legislation within a comparable organisation
  • Line Management Experience: experience managing a team of information rights practitioners
  • Information Rights Compliance: knowledge and experience of monitoring information rights compliance
  • Communication Skills: excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain rules and legislation clearly
  • Prioritisation: evidence of managing conflicting priorities and meeting demanding deadlines
  • Collaborative Working: proven ability to work on own initiative and as part of a wider team, providing advice to achieve shared goals

DESIRABLE

  • Welsh Language Skills: ability to speak Welsh, where the successful candidate is based in the Swansea office
