SEMH Learning & Behaviour Mentor

£95 - £120 daily

Job Description

SEMH Learning & Behaviour Mentor
Primary & Secondary Flexible & Long-Term Opportunities

Are you a calm, confident and relatable role model who can build trust with young people who've had a tough start?

We're looking for Learning & Behaviour Mentors to support children and young people within a specialist SEMH setting in Bristol. This role is ideal for someone who understands that behaviour is communication, and who can offer consistency, boundaries, humour and genuine care in equal measure.

This provision is particularly keen to welcome positive mentors who can engage, motivate and inspire boys across both primary and secondary age ranges.

About the Young People
The children and young people you'll support typically have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, often alongside additional needs such as:

  • ADHD / ADD
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Trauma and attachment difficulties
  • Anxiety, emotional regulation challenges and low self-esteem

Many of these pupils have experienced disrupted education, including exclusion or breakdowns in mainstream settings. They may present with:

  • Dysregulated or challenging behaviour
  • Difficulty trusting adults
  • Low confidence in learning
  • High energy, impulsivity or emotional overwhelm

What they need most are consistent adults who don't give up on them - people who can model positive relationships, keep boundaries firm but fair, and show them that school can be a safe, supportive place again.

The Role
As an SEMH Learning & Behaviour Mentor, you will:

  • Build strong, relational connections with pupils
  • Support learning and behaviour across primary and secondary ages
  • Work 1:1 and with small groups, both in and out of the classroom
  • Help pupils regulate emotions and re-engage with education
  • Be a visible, positive role model throughout the school day
  • Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and external professionals

No two days are the same - patience, flexibility and a sense of humour go a long way here.

We're Looking For Someone Who:

  • Has experience in schools, alternative learning provisions or SEMH support out of education (essential)
  • Is confident supporting challenging behaviour in a calm, proactive way
  • Takes a relational, trauma-informed approach
  • Is warm, engaging, child-centred - and not afraid to have fun
  • Has strong safeguarding knowledge and professional boundaries
  • Is open to flexible supply work or long-term placements
  • Can support both group work and 1:1 mentoring
