Senior Town Planner

South London Local Authority 45+ per hour (DOE) Initial 6-Month Contract Likely Extension Hybrid Working Available

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Planning Officer to join a busy Development Management team within a well-established South London local authority.

Due to a sustained workload and continuing development activity across the borough, the council is seeking an experienced planner to manage a varied caseload of planning applications and contribute to the delivery of high-quality development outcomes.

You will be responsible for handling a diverse caseload of planning applications, appeals and associated development management work. The position offers exposure to a wide range of schemes, from minor residential developments through to complex major applications.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing a varied caseload of planning applications from validation through to determination.
• Preparing detailed officer reports and recommendations.
• Conducting site visits and negotiating with applicants, agents and stakeholders.
• Providing professional planning advice to members, applicants and members of the public.
• Representing the authority at committees, hearings and appeals where required.
• Supporting the delivery of sustainable growth and regeneration objectives across the borough.

The successful candidate will possess:

• Previous experience working within a UK local authority Development Management team.
• A strong understanding of current planning legislation, policy and procedures.
• Experience assessing a range of planning applications, ideally including complex or major schemes.
• Excellent report-writing and stakeholder management skills.
• The ability to manage a demanding workload whilst maintaining a high standard of service delivery.
• MRTPI qualification would be advantageous, although strong local authority experience is more advantageous.

• Competitive rate of 45+ per hour, with flexibility for experienced candidates.
• Initial 6-month contract with a strong likelihood of extension.
• Hybrid working arrangements.
