Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer Electrical Maintenance Mechanical Maintenance PPM Fault Finding Manufacturing

Are you a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer looking for a Monday-to-Friday days role with no nights or weekend working?

We are recruiting an experienced Maintenance Engineer with an electrical bias to join an established FMCG manufacturing business. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically and electrically skilled engineer looking to join a business that genuinely invests in its machinery, facilities and people.

Working within a small engineering team, you'll have responsibility for planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance, electrical and mechanical fault finding, and supporting ongoing engineering projects.

The business has a relatively relaxed working environment, with reliable machinery, achievable production targets and a strong focus on preventative maintenance rather than constantly reacting to breakdowns.

About The Company

Our client is an American-owned manufacturing group operating within the FMCG sector, producing popular household cleaning products supplied to major supermarkets, retailers and e-commerce businesses.

The UK operation has an annual turnover of approximately £10 million and manufactures between 1 and 1.3 million products every week.

The business continues to invest heavily in its manufacturing capabilities, with recent investment including a £400k automation project to integrate production processes, alongside upgrades to existing machinery and tooling.

This is a business that recognises the importance of investing in its facilities and people.

The Role Maintenance Engineer

As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving a range of bespoke production and packaging machinery.

Working on a 50/50 mechanical and electrical split, the role would particularly suit an engineer with good electrical fault-finding capabilities alongside solid mechanical maintenance experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production machinery.
  • Responding to reactive maintenance requirements and machinery breakdowns.
  • Electrical fault finding using a multimeter.
  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults involving contactors, relays, inverters and sensors.
  • Mechanical fault finding and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Replacing motors, bearings and other mechanical components.
  • Stripping down, repairing and replacing pneumatic cylinders.
  • Maintaining hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Carrying out routine lubrication, cleaning and inspection of machinery.
  • Supporting machinery installations, upgrades and commissioning activities.
  • Involvement in engineering projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Updating maintenance records and preventative maintenance schedules using the CMMS system.

PLC programming experience is not essential, as the role is predominantly focused on electrical and mechanical maintenance, fault finding and preventative maintenance.

What we requrie

We are keen to speak with Maintenance Engineers from manufacturing backgrounds who are looking for a stable, days-based engineering position.

You should ideally have:

  • Experience working as a Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer or Maintenance Technician within a manufacturing environment.
  • An electrical engineering qualification, ideally NVQ Level 3, although NVQ Level 2 will be considered.
  • Good electrical maintenance and fault-finding experience.
  • Experience working with contactors, relays, inverters, sensors and electrical components.
  • A solid mechanical maintenance background.
  • Experience with motors, bearings, pneumatics and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
  • Knowledge of electrical isolation and lock-off/tag-off procedures.
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of maintenance tasks.

Candidates with experience in FMCG, plastics, injection moulding, packaging or automated manufacturing environments would be particularly relevant, although other manufacturing backgrounds will be considered.

Personality is just as important as technical ability. We're looking for someone who is reliable, practical, collaborative and takes pride in doing a good job.

This isn't a role for someone looking to work in a constantly pressured, fast-paced environment. It's ideally suited to an engineer who enjoys maintaining machinery properly, preventing breakdowns and working as part of a friendly engineering team.

Salary & Benefits
  • Salary up to £40,000 depending on experience.
  • Monday to Friday, 6am 2pm.
  • No night shifts or weekend working.
  • 37.5-hour working week.
  • 31 days annual leave including bank holidays each year
  • Regular training and development opportunities.
  • Additional electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic training.
  • Injection moulding and machinery-specific training.
  • Opportunities to progress into senior engineering positions.
  • Ongoing investment in machinery, equipment and manufacturing facilities.
