Operational Support Engineer

Astute's Power Team is recruiting an Operational Support Engineer based at Rugby Head Office - temporary site based.

The Operational Support Engineer is a hands-on operational role supporting assembly, inspection, repair and refurbishment across Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Tower Lights and Materials Handling Equipment (MHE).

Responsibilities and duties of the Operational Support Engineer role
As an Operational Support Engineer, you will:

• Carry out pre-delivery inspection (PDI) activities in line with technical checklists and safety requirements, including preparing and testing Tower Lights for customer delivery. Accurately complete PDI documentation and quality records, escalating defects, non-conformances and technical concerns through the appropriate channels.
• Repair and refurbish returned or used equipment, including BESS and Tower Lights. Diagnose basic faults, take corrective action within your capability and authority, and prepare equipment to agreed quality and safety standards for resale or redeployment. Feed back recurring issues or failure trends to support continuous improvement.
• Support inventory accuracy through goods-in inspection and reporting of damaged or incorrect items.
• Work in full compliance with health, safety and environmental procedures, follow defined quality processes and safe systems of work, maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment, and promptly report

hazards, near misses and safety concerns.

Key relationships: Operations Director, Production Team, Service & Technical Teams, Parts, and Logistics & Yard Teams.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following experience:

Essential: a practical engineering or mechanical background within industrial, plant or equipment environments.

Essential: experience working in assembly, PDI, repair or refurbishment roles.

Essential: comfortable working across multiple product types and tasks.

Essential: strong attention to detail with a quality-first mindset, and a good understanding of workshop safety and operational discipline.

Desirable: experience with BESS, Tower Lights, MHE, generators or similar equipment.

Desirable: electrical or mechanical qualifications or relevant hands-on experience.

Desirable: a forklift licence.
