ob Title: Job Retention Specialist

Job Location: Clarence House, 11 Clarence Rd, Leeds LS18 4LB, with regular travel across Leeds

Contract Type: Permanent

It's hard to find work when you struggle with your mental health. It's another story to remain in a job long-term. That's where you come in.

As a Job Retention Specialist, you'll parachute in when clients need you most. Maybe they're on long-term sick because of their mental health. Perhaps they're on a performance improvement plan because they're burned out from masking. They could be part of a disciplinary process because they're struggling in their role without reasonable adjustments that they should have in place. Whatever the reason, you'll be able to provide vital support.

You'll wear a lot of hats as a Job Retention Specialist. You'll know what ACAS guidance is relevant, you'll support employees in mediation meetings similarly to a union rep, and you'll educate employers on best practice related to inclusion in the workplace.

Each person you support, you'll support for a short period of time to deal with the issues they're facing. To do this, you'll use the LIFT-Model, offering time sensitive intervention and support.

You don't need to have done this exact job before. If you've supported people in mental health, employment, advice, advocacy or a similar service, we would like to hear from you. You will be part of a friendly team, with the backing of your Team Leader every step of the way.

A day in the life of a Job Retention Specialist will involve:

  • Giving one-to-one support to people with mental health difficulties who are in work, using our structured, time-limited intervention approach based on the LIFT-Model.

  • Working with each person to understand their strengths and workplace difficulties, agree a practical plan and review how it is going.

  • Helping people understand and ask for reasonable adjustments at work.

  • Speaking with employers and line managers, always with the person's agreement, to support helpful workplace conversations.

  • Working with NHS teams, Leeds Mind colleagues and other services to coordinate support, sharing information safely and respecting confidentiality.

  • Managing your own caseload, keeping clear and accurate records, and working towards service goals with regular supervision and case reviews.

  • Sharing client feedback and ideas to help us improve the service.

To be a successful Job Retention Specialist, you'll need:

  • Experience of giving person-centred support in mental health, employment, advice, advocacy or a similar service.

  • A belief in people's potential, and a positive, hopeful and non-judgmental approach that respects individual choice.

  • An understanding of how mental health difficulties can affect work and wellbeing.

  • Experience of managing competing priorities or a caseload, and keeping clear, accurate records, using standard digital systems.

  • Up to date knowledge of ACAS best guidance, and best practice related to inclusion in the workplace.

  • The ability to build good working relationships and communicate clearly with clients, employers, colleagues and partner services.

  • Working knowledge of confidentiality, safeguarding and professional boundaries, and awareness of reasonable adjustments and when to ask for guidance.

  • Resourcefulness, openness to feedback and a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, in line with our values of being open, supportive, brave, connected and resourceful.

A note on checks: this post requires an Enhanced DBS check.

In return for your commitment and expertise, you'll get:

  • Annual leave - 28 days plus 8 statutory holidays, rising to 31 days after 3 years' service

  • Pension scheme - 3% employer contribution, 5% employee contribution, enhanced through salary exchange

  • Supportive leave and flexible working policies, including enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave

  • Death In Service at 3x your salary

  • A monthly 'Wellbeing hour'

  • 24/7 Life & Progress Employee Assistance Programme

  • Values Spotlight - monthly recognition scheme

  • Cycle to Work scheme

  • Access to Simply Health cash plan

  • Access to social care charity work discount schemes

  • Mental and physical health wellbeing activities timetable

  • A fully funded IPS Employment Specialist training programme and ongoing competency support

  • Reflective supervision, observed practice, and regular opportunities for professional development

  • The opportunity to make a genuine, lasting difference to people's lives through meaningful employment support

We've made significant progress in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging in recent years, resulting in a diverse team. We are committed to maintaining strong representation in our workforce and always encourage applications from LGBTQIA+, culturally diverse, neurodivergent and disabled individualswithin Leeds Mind.
