About the Role

As Payroll Officer, you'll take responsibility for the end-to-end monthly payroll process, ensuring payroll is accurate, timely and fully compliant with current legislation and company procedures.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Processing monthly payroll from start to finish.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee payroll records.
• Processing starters, leavers, salary changes and contractual amendments.
• Calculating PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions and other deductions.
• Processing statutory payments, including SSP and SMP where applicable.
• Responding to payroll queries and resolving issues promptly and professionally.
• Completing payroll reconciliations and investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Preparing payroll reports and supporting statutory submissions.
• Liaising with HMRC, pension providers and other relevant third parties.
• Supporting payroll year-end activities, including the production of P60s.
• Keeping up to date with changes to payroll legislation and ensuring ongoing compliance.
• Handling sensitive employee information with the highest level of confidentiality.

About You

We're looking for a reliable, organised and detail-focused payroll professional who is comfortable working to deadlines and taking ownership of their workload.

You'll ideally have:

• Previous experience working in a payroll role, with end-to-end payroll experience highly desirable.
• A strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance and workplace pensions.
• Excellent attention to detail and a consistently high level of accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• The ability to prioritise effectively and manage competing deadlines.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Experience using payroll software and Microsoft Excel.
• A professional, discreet and confidential approach to sensitive employee information.

A recognised payroll qualification, such as CIPP, would be advantageous but is not essential.
