SALARY: £35,000 to £45,000 per annum (depending on experience)

LOCATION: Luton, Bedfordshire (100% Office Based)

JOB OVERVIEW

The CAD Design Engineer / Estimator will create accurate models, drawings and quotations, working closely with management, customers and suppliers.

Working alongside the fabrication team, the CAD Design Engineer / Estimator will help resolve technical queries and support efficient manufacture.

This CAD Design Engineer / Estimator opportunity offers varied projects within a growing, ambitious fabrication business, with licensed role-specific software provided.

DUTIES

Your duties as the CAD Design Engineer / Estimator include:

• CAD Design and Drawings: Produce detailed 2D and 3D designs using AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Fusion 360, including fabrication, assembly and workshop drawings
• Production Files and Documentation: Create flat patterns, production-ready DXF files and bills of materials for laser cutting, CNC turret punching, press brake operations and other CNC machinery
• Sheet Metal Design: Develop components and assemblies incorporating bends, hems, flanges, gussets, louvres and forming features
• Estimating and Quotations: Prepare accurate estimates and quotations from architectural, engineering and technical drawings
• Customer and Supplier Liaison: Communicate throughout the design and quotation process and obtain and evaluate supplier quotations where required
• Production Support: Work with the fabrication team to resolve technical queries and support manufacture
• Enquiry Management: Manage new enquiries efficiently and keep relevant stakeholders informed
• Technical Knowledge: Maintain current knowledge of relevant products, industry standards and technical information

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL

• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks or Fusion 360
• Experience creating flat patterns and production-ready manufacturing drawings
• Experience preparing DXF files for laser cutting, CNC turret punching and press brake operations
• Good understanding of sheet metal fabrication and manufacturing processes
• Ability to interpret engineering, fabrication and architectural drawings
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and problem-solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication skills in English
• Legal right to work in the UK without sponsorship or immigration support

DESIRABLE

• Experience in metal fabrication or bespoke metal manufacturing
• Knowledge of Amada laser cutting, press brake operations, CNC turret punching, welding and assembly processes
• Understanding of ISO 9001 quality management systems
• Full UK driving licence
