Location: Leeds

Hours: Permanent, with flexible options of 37, 30 or 22.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We are looking to appoint either 1 x 37-hour and 1 x 22.5-hour Housing Support Worker, or 2 x 30-hour Housing Support Workers.

Salary: £29,077 per annum, pro rata for part-time hours

Benefits: 5% employer pension contribution and 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, pro rata

LATCH is looking for experienced and committed Housing Support Workers to join its friendly and close-knit team in Leeds. We are recruiting two Housing Support Workers and can offer flexibility across 37, 30 or 22.5 hours per week, depending on the experience and availability of the successful candidates.

About LATCH

LATCH is an established Leeds-based charitable organisation with a vision that people should have quality homes and opportunities to lead fulfilling lives.

We refurbish empty and derelict properties, transforming them into high-quality supported homes for people who are experiencing homelessness or facing housing challenges. Since LATCH began, more than 112 properties across Chapeltown, Harehills and Burley have been brought back into use.

Our work goes well beyond providing someone with a home. We offer flexible and individualised support, recognising that every tenant has different experiences, strengths and aspirations. Our approach incorporates strengths-based and trauma-informed practice, helping tenants to rebuild their confidence, develop new skills and progress towards independent living.

In 2025, LATCH housed 259 adults and children, supported 73 people into a new home and helped 57 tenants move successfully into independent living.

The role

As a Housing Support Worker, you will manage an active caseload of people with multiple and complex needs, working closely with tenants to understand their individual circumstances, identify their support needs and agree achievable goals.

Your support could include helping someone to manage their tenancy and finances, access benefits or specialist services, improve their wellbeing, develop independent living skills, or take steps towards volunteering, training and employment.

You will build supportive and professional relationships while encouraging tenants to recognise their strengths, make informed decisions and take greater control of their lives.

The role will also involve transporting tenants where required, so a full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle for work purposes are essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Completing housing and support needs assessments and contributing to decisions about suitable housing offers.
• Working with tenants to develop, implement and regularly review individual support plans using the Outcomes Star.
• Helping tenants establish and maintain their tenancies and reduce the risk of recurring homelessness.
• Supporting tenants with practical and emotional issues, including budgeting, paying bills, planning meals and managing their homes.
• Helping tenants access welfare benefits and maximise their income.
• Supporting tenants to access community activities, volunteering, training and employment opportunities.
• Completing risk assessments and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns and incidents.
• Working with partner organisations, making referrals and attending multidisciplinary meetings where required.
• Supporting tenants to prepare for and move successfully into independent living.
• Monitoring the condition of tenants accommodation and reporting repairs or damage.
• Maintaining accurate, detailed and confidential case records.
• Contributing to service development, team meetings, performance reporting and the achievement of service outcomes.
• Prioritising changing and competing demands effectively across an active caseload.
• Transporting tenants where required as part of their support.

About you

We are looking for someone who is warm, dependable and able to develop positive working relationships with people who may have experienced homelessness, trauma or a range of complex support needs.

You will need:

• At least 3 years experience working as a Support Worker.
• Experience of managing an active caseload of people with multiple and complex needs.
• Experience of building and maintaining effective support relationships.
• An understanding of homelessness and the range of practical and emotional issues people may experience.
• The ability to assess housing and support needs, identify risks and develop appropriate support plans.
• The ability to develop, implement and review person-centred support plans.
• The ability to prioritise changing and competing demands across an active caseload.
• Knowledge of welfare rights and benefits.
• Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures.
• The ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage your own time and workload.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office, databases and electronic record-keeping systems.
• The ability to work independently, use your initiative and contribute positively as part of a team.
• A full UK driving licence with no more than six penalty points and access to your own vehicle for work purposes.

A relevant qualification in support work or social work, experience within supported housing, knowledge of Leeds-based support services or experience of using the Outcomes Star would be advantageous but is not essential.
