Financial Controller
Location: Near Garforth
Salary: £80,000 - £90,000
Working pattern: Predominantly site-based

Robert Half is delighted to be supporting a busy and growing SME based outside of Garforth in the search for a Financial Controller.

This is a key appointment for the business as they look to bring in a commercially minded and technically strong finance leader who can add real value beyond the numbers. Working closely with the executive team, the Financial Controller will provide financial insight to support strategic decision-making across the business, while also taking ownership of the full finance function in a hands-on SME environment.

The role will suit an experienced finance professional who enjoys operating at both a strategic and operational level, is comfortable in a fast-paced business, and has previous experience within an SME and ideally an owner-managed business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and managing the day-to-day finance function
  • Managing and developing a small finance team
  • Producing timely and accurate monthly management accounts
  • Delivering robust financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
  • Providing commercial and financial insight to the executive team
  • Supporting business decision-making with clear analysis and recommendations
  • Overseeing cashflow management and working capital
  • Managing statutory accounts, audit and tax processes
  • Ensuring strong financial controls, governance and process improvement
  • Taking a hands-on approach across all areas of finance, as expected in an SME environment

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance leadership role
  • Strong technical accounting background
  • Demonstrable ability to partner with senior stakeholders and influence decision-making
  • Previous experience working within an SME environment
  • Ideally experience within an owner-managed business
  • A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to operate both strategically and in the detail
  • Experience managing or mentoring a small team
