About the Role:

Supply Desk are seeking an enthusiastic, compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a successful and supportive secondary school in the Hemel Hempstead area. The successful candidate will provide dedicated support to students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), helping them access the curriculum, develop their confidence and independence, and thrive both academically and socially.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or a candidate with a strong background in education, care or support work who is looking to develop their career within a positive and inclusive school environment.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and the wider support team to provide one-to-one and small-group support, adapting activities and communication approaches to meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-to-one and small-group support to secondary students with ASC and additional learning needs

Support students to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities

Develop positive and trusting relationships with students, encouraging confidence, independence and engagement

Support students with communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and sensory needs

Assist with implementing individual learning and support strategies

Encourage positive behaviour and help students manage transitions, routines and changes

Monitor and report on student progress, behaviour and wellbeing

Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and other support staff

Create a safe, calm, structured and inclusive learning environment

Support students during break times, lunch periods and wider school activities where required

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Previous experience working with children or young people

Experience supporting students with ASC, autism or other SEN needs is desirable

A patient, caring and empathetic approach

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people

Understanding of neurodiversity, individual needs and inclusive practice

The ability to remain calm and consistent when supporting students with behavioural or emotional needs

A genuine passion for supporting young people's learning, development and wellbeing

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student wellbeing
