A well-established London Local Authority, is looking to appoint an experienced Specialist Surveyor to join their Home Improvement team on an initial 26-week contract.
This is a fantastic opportunity to take the lead on delivering specialist disability adaptations and home improvement projects that have a genuine impact on the lives of vulnerable residents across the borough.
Please note: Previous experience delivering disability adaptations is essential. Unfortunately, applications without this experience cannot be considered.
The Role
As Specialist Surveyor, you'll manage the delivery of a wide range of adaptations and home improvement works, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget and in line with current legislation.
You'll oversee a varied caseload from initial assessment through to completion, working closely with residents, contractors, Occupational Therapists and internal teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing specialist disability adaptations including Level Access Showers, stairlifts, wheelchair lifts, ramps and ceiling track hoists.
- Delivering home improvement and disrepair works, including damp and mould remediation.
- Carrying out pre, mid and post-work inspections to ensure quality and compliance.
- Managing repairs to existing adaptations and responding to urgent maintenance issues.
- Supervising and supporting Surveyors and Trainee Surveyors.
- Managing contractor performance, quality standards and programme delivery.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, health and safety requirements and council policies.
- Investigating complaints, resolving defects and driving continuous service improvements.
About You
To be considered, you'll have:
- Proven experience delivering disability adaptations within residential properties (essential).
- Experience specifying and managing works including Level Access Showers, stairlifts, wheelchair lifts, ramps or similar adaptations.
- Strong knowledge of residential repairs, maintenance, disrepair, damp and mould.
- Experience managing contractors and overseeing projects from specification through to completion.
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring technical staff.
- A good understanding of relevant legislation, including the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working alongside vulnerable residents and partner organisations.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied and complex workload.
Qualifications
- Degree in Building Surveying or a related built environment discipline.
- Professional membership (MRICS, MCIOB or equivalent) or working towards chartership is desirable.
