ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
To provide a professional, visible, and customer-focused security presence throughout The Gyle Shopping Centre. The Security Officer will ensure the safety and security of visitors, tenants, contractors, and colleagues while maintaining a welcoming environment and supporting the centre's operational requirements.
This role is designated as a permanent holiday cover position and will provide planned holiday relief across the security team while maintaining service standards and operational resilience.
Key responsibility
Carry out regular patrols of the shopping centre, service areas, car parks, and external perimeter.
Monitor and respond to alarms, incidents, and security breaches promptly and professionally.
Ensure all incidents are recorded accurately and reported in accordance with company procedures.
Conduct lock and unlock procedures for designated areas.
Monitor CCTV systems in compliance with current legislation and company policies.
Assist with emergency evacuations and incident management procedures.
Challenge unauthorised persons and ensure access control procedures are followed.
Deliver exceptional customer service to all visitors, tenants, and colleagues.
Provide directions, information, and assistance to members of the public.
Act as an ambassador for The Gyle, promoting a safe and welcoming environment.
Support customer service initiatives and centre events where required.
Identify and report hazards, defects, and unsafe practices.
Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.
Support emergency response procedures, including first aid and fire incidents where trained.
Maintain awareness of site-specific emergency plans and business continuity arrangements.
Prepare detailed incident and occurrence reports.
Liaise with emergency services when required.

Requirements
Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence.
Previous experience in a security role.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service focus.
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
Good observational and report-writing skills.
Ability to work a flexible shift pattern, including weekends and bank holidays.
Basic IT literacy.
SIA CCTV license (desirable)
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
· Conduct daily/weekly/monthly duties in line with the SIA license training courses to ensure the centre is safe and compliant in all aspect of health & safety
· Confident in complying with health & safety and fire prevention procedures
· Take an active role in emergency situations including Fire Warden tasks
· Oversee external contractor management to ensure they are working safely
· Always follow ABM Group and company policies and procedures
· Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment
· Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received
· Report any issues or training needs to your Line manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system
