Special Needs Assistant (Secondary)

Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Full-time, Long-Term/Temporary
Salary: 108- 115 per day (dependent on experience)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:00pm

We are working alongside a well-respected secondary school in the Bury area that is seeking to recruit a reliable and dedicated Special Needs Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

The school places a strong emphasis on inclusion and student well being, ensuring that all pupils receive the support they need to succeed both academically and socially. With a structured and supportive environment, staff are committed to building positive relationships and fostering a culture of respect and achievement.

As a Special Needs Assistant, you will provide essential support to students with a range of additional needs, enabling them to fully engage with their education and reach their individual potential.

• Support students with special educational needs on a one-to-one basis and in small groups
• Assist teachers in delivering lessons that are accessible and inclusive
• Help implement individual support plans and learning strategies
• Encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation
• Promote independence and confidence in students
• Liaise effectively with teaching staff, SENCO, and other professionals

• Have experience working with young people, ideally within a school or SEN setting
• Demonstrate patience, resilience, and a caring approach
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Be confident supporting behaviour and diverse learning needs
• Be proactive, adaptable, and committed to supporting student development

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Two professional references relating to work with children or young people
