About the role:

As a Senior Subsurface Data Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the subsurface data landscape across client environments. Acting as a trusted advisor, you will ensure the integrity, accessibility, and strategic use of subsurface data, supporting exploration and geoscience teams with high-quality, reliable information.

You will take ownership of complex data management challenges, working across well and seismic datasets, and driving best practice in data governance, lifecycle management, and regulatory compliance. This role will see you operating at the intersection of geoscience and data, influencing how data is structured, managed, and leveraged to support critical business decisions.

As a Senior Subsurface Data Manager, you will:

  • Advise on and lead the development of subsurface data landscapes and architectures
  • Manage client requirements for Exploration and Geological Well & Seismic data, including data receipt, conversion, transfer, quality control, and archiving
  • Act as a key interface between Geoscience teams and Data Management functions, ensuring alignment and collaboration
  • Conduct data quality assessments, enforce standards, and ensure consistency across projects and corporate repositories
  • Deliver well & seismic data management services for E&P applications, maintaining high-quality corporate databases
  • Maintain and optimise data inventories, ensuring alignment with agreed standards and best practice
  • Support the implementation of scalable data management processes that enhance accessibility and usability
  • Provide guidance on data governance, lifecycle management, and compliance with regulatory obligations

Requirements

  • Proven experience managing subsurface data within exploration and production environments
  • Strong expertise in Petrel Studio, including building and managing environments and architectures
  • Experience with data management tools such as Landmark, Kingdom, or similar platforms
  • Deep understanding of upstream business operations and subsurface data workflows
  • Strong knowledge of data management principles, standards, and lifecycle practices
  • Experience ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks, including the UK National Data Repository
  • Confident communicator, able to work effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Degree in Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience working with G&G data
