A specialist contractor with in-house steelwork capability is seeking an experienced Senior Tekla Steelwork Detailer to strengthen its growing technical team. This is a hands-on senior role, leading the detailing of complex structural steel and temporary works packages-where precise, buildable models translate directly into fabrication and successful site delivery.
This position suits a highly competent Tekla detailer who understands how steel is actually fabricated and erected, and who can confidently coordinate with engineers, the workshop, and site teams to drive quality and efficiency from model to install.
The Role
As a Senior Tekla Detailer, you will take technical ownership of steelwork packages and play a key role in maintaining detailing standards across projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the production of high-quality fabrication and erection drawings using Tekla Structures
- Model complex steelwork assemblies, connections, and temporary works to suit fabrication and site constraints
- Generate GA drawings, material take-offs, bolt lists, and CNC data
- Coordinate closely with structural engineers, project teams, fabricators, and site management
- Resolve technical queries and detailing challenges proactively
- Apply a strong buildability and safety-led approach to all models and drawings
- Ensure full compliance with Eurocodes, UK standards, client requirements, and internal QA procedures
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior detailers where required
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a steelwork detailer, with a strong track record in a senior or lead role
- Expert-level proficiency in Tekla Structures (essential)
- In-depth understanding of steel fabrication processes, erection sequencing, and connection detailing
- Strong working knowledge of Eurocodes and UK construction standards
- Ability to interpret and challenge engineering drawings and calculations where appropriate
- Highly detail-oriented with a practical, problem-solving mindset
- Experience working within a Tier 2 contractor or specialist subcontractor environment (preferred)
- Confident communicator able to work across technical and site-based teams
