Setter/Operator - Turning (Sliding Head)

Salary/Shift pattern: Competitive/Monday-Thursday 2pm-12am
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Sliding Head Programmer / Setter / Operator with experience on Star (M32 / SR / SB) and Citizen M-Series machines. The role involves full machine setup, production support, and continuous improvement within a high-precision manufacturing environment.
Main Duties
- Complete full CNC sliding head setups from tooling layout and process sheets
- Produce and approve first-off components to drawing
- Prepare tooling, programs, and ancillaries for upcoming jobs (pre-production kitting)
- Inspect and manage tooling post-production, reporting wear or damage
- Update tooling and process documentation following production runs
- Operate machines during production, maintaining quality and efficiency
- Monitor tool wear, offsets, and performance during runs
- Carry out in-process inspection using gauges, shadowgraphs, Vici Vision, and OGP systems
- Record production data, scrap, and setup details accurately
- Support continuous improvement and new product introduction (NPI)
- Perform TPM maintenance (daily/weekly/monthly)
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping (5S)
Additional Responsibilities
- Promote a strong health & safety culture
- Support other production areas when required
- Attend team, NPI, and RCA meetings
- Communicate progress with Team Leader and Production Manager
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong background in Sliding Head CNC machining
- Experience with Star (M32/SR/SB) and/or Citizen M-Series machines
- Ability to set complete processes (bar feeders, bushes, collets)
- Strong understanding of Fanuc/Mitsubishi NC programming
- Ability to read/edit programs and troubleshoot issues
- Knowledge of tooling, materials, and cutting data
- Competent with inspection equipment and techniques
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Good IT skills (Excel preferred)
- Ability to work independently and within a team
Desirable
- Offline/online NC programming capability
- Experience with fixed head CNC machines
- Process development from drawing to production
- Apprenticeship trained
- Knowledge of lean / 5S principles
- Manual machining/toolroom skills
- First Aid trained
