CNC Programmer / Operator

Brompton is looking for an experienced CNC programmer / Setter / Operator to join its prototyping department. The role requires someone with a hands-on approach and is open to tackling various multi-skilled tasks, has problem solving abilities and is willing to work within a team.

As this role is within the prototyping department, we often require our team to be open to learn new skills and have the enthusiasm to tackle new technologies. As a machine operator you will be a flexible, multi skilled person who can easily transfer between machine processes within the department. Required to occasionally work with manual mill and lathe when supporting the team with projects. This is an exciting role for the right person that wants to work within product development, a passion for anything bicycle is an advantage but not a requirement. 

The focus of the role is to work with design engineers and prepare CAD files offline (CAD/CAMM) and then operate a 5 axis CNC mill to produce parts with tight tolerance in small batches.  

Job purpose | CNC programmer / Setter / Operator

  • Produce parts to target times. 

  • Produce quality parts to meet drawing specifications. 

  • Operator machines effectively and safely. 

Main duties | CNC programmer / Setter / Operator

  • Work offline programming CAD/CAMM (5axis). 

  • Replenish consumables for machinery. 

  • Replenish tooling for machinery. 

  • Produce parts to quality standards from engineering drawings. 

  • Produce parts to expected target times. 

  • Operate machinery safely. 

  • Support continuous improvements. 

  • Liaise closely and support the design department, updating them of any potential issues. 

  • To be able to work as part of a small team inspecting own work and that of others within the section. 

Other duties | CNC programmer / Setter / Operator

  • Operate manual machinery. 

  • Operation of 3D printers. 

  • General housekeeping of machinery and workshop environment. 

  • Support the training of apprentices and trainees. 

Person specification/requirements 

  • At least 4 years of CNC programmer/operator experience. 

  • Be aware of Health and Safety standards. 

  • Eligibility to work in the UK. 

  • Punctuality and reliability are very important. 

  • Good command of spoken and written English. 

  • Good personal skills. 

  • Effective communication, observation, and reporting skills. 

  • Honest, reliable, and trustworthy. 

  • Organised, flexible, and persistent. 

  • Ability to work alone and unsupervised. 

  • Willingness to undertake training to increase or update skills. 

  • Has a good ability to understand improvements and identify them. 

  • Supports continuous improvements. 

  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential, as is a good knowledge of production processes and systems. 

  • A positive, innovative, and motivated approach to their work combined with an ability to work under pressure within time constraints. 

  • Experience with Hurco platform beneficial, but not essential.
